Virtuous Daughters

Life, especially singlehood, can be like going down a road. It can bring with it twists and turns, climbing up and down hills and can be either smooth or rough going. In order to go down this road, we need to follow our trail guide, Yahshua the Messiah!

Resources

May 1st, 2008 by Miss Samantha

Books, Sites and Articles that I recommend reading or visiting:

I have decided to break this list up, as I am going to be adding different books, sites and different research that I have come across, as I have the time. This way, you will be able to jump to whatever spot it is that you are interested in or need.  If things pertain to more than one area, I will try to pick the one that would be the easiest for you to be able to find it in.  I will also try to put a small description next to each one, but due to the limited amount of time, I may not be able to, but I will try.

* I do not necessarily believe everything that is taught within these books, but they are books that I have learned a great deal from and that have impacted my life for the good.*

Godly Daughterhood and Maidenhood:

So Much More by Anna and Elizabeth Botkin:  This book is not another Christian-teenage-girl “survival guide.” So Much Moreshows how Christian girls can wage war with the world and win. The Botkin sisters focus on how young women can rise above their God-hating culture and change it for the better. Today, countless young ladies face difficult problems and challenging questions. While many long for godly purpose in their lives, their bewilderment mounts when they observe broken homes, distant fathers, overwhelmed mothers, degrading college courses, and a lack of spiritual guidance — both at home and at church. As hope for security and stability fades, it is no wonder that many young ladies feel orphaned, unprotected, and without hope for their futures.  Within the pages of this book, discover practical, biblical solutions for the young woman who wants to do so much more than just “survive” in a savagely feministic, anti-Christian culture. Find the answers a girl is not likely to get from her church, her peers, or her culture.

Emontional Purity by Heather Paulsen:  Emotional Purity teaches that we are to remain emotionally pure until that person, that special person that God has picked for us comes, into our life. In the examples given in the book (and echoed throughout Christian churches) couples who wait for the person God wants them to marry have strong and happy marriages. It is an excellent book and will challenge just about every reader!  And I have to add that this book has changed my life forever! I would not only highly recommend that every woman read it, but I would also recommend every parent read it as well! This book is a must!

His Chosen Bride by Jennifer Lamp: Is a Proverbs 31 book for single woman. It is one of the best books I have read on the subject and could not recommend it more! I can promise you that you will thoroughly enjoy this book and all of the encouragement and instruction on how to apply Proverbs 31 to your life as a single woman. It will be well worth your money!

Ladies against Feminism is a great site.  They have some great articles.

Domestic Felicity is also a site that has some really good articles.  Anna just got married recently, so a lot of the articles are on singlehood - ranging from every aspect.

By Searching by Isobel Kuhn is a beautiful story and testimony of Isobel Kuhn’s search for the truth.  It is one of my favorite books, and I would highly recommend every young woman, or older woman, to read it!

Clothing articles and sites where  you can buy modest clothing:

The Modesty Survey - is an exciting, anonymous discussion between Christian guys and girls who care about modesty. Hundreds of Christian girls contributed to the 148-question survey and over 1,600 Christian guys submitted 150,000+ answers, including 25,000 text responses, over a 20-day period in January 2007. You just HAVE to check this one out!

http://www.tznius.com/ - An Israeli site that sells some very modest and beautiful skirts and some shirts, as well.  And they aren’t that expensive, and their clothes hold up.

Modest patters from Sense and Sensibility - they have some beautiful, modest patters. I have enjoyed a few of them, myself. :-)

The Joyful Cottage - also has some wonderfully modest clothes, as well as some heirloom things.

Preparing for Marriage, Courtship and Betrothal:

Courtship and Betrothal Stories A great site if you want to read about different stories and how God brought different ones together. I have found that this site has been very encouraging.

Best Friends for Life by Micheal Phillips: Is a great book about relationships and the need to listen to your parents.

The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian is a wonderful book that talks about 30 different ways that we can pray for our husbands.  I love going through it, as it also gives me ways that I can be praying for my future husband.

Marriage:

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman: This is an EXCELLENT book about love languages, and how different people, speak different languages.  It will show you how you can best tell  your spouse or child, how you love them, and do it in a way that let’s them understand you.

The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian is a wonderful book that talks about 30 different ways that we can pray for our husbands.  I love going through it, as it also gives me ways that I can be praying for my future husband.

Fireproof is an EXCELLENT movie on marriage done by Sherwood Pictures, that I would HIGHLY recommend everyone viewing! You can click on the link, and it will bring you to their site.  I can promise you, you WILL be blessed by this video!!!

Pregnancy, Childbirth and Nursing: Since I really enjoy studying about pregnancy, childbirth and nursing, I decided to add a little area where I could share some great resources, for those of you who are interested. :-)

The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth by Henci Goer:  This book is a MUST read for all parents! Especially for first time parents.  It is a book full of research that will open your eyes to a lot of what is going on.  You won’t be sorry that you read it!

Heart and Hands by Elizabeth Davis: This is a book, although for midwives, would be a great resource I think for any newly expecting Mom.  It is full of information on what to expect, what will happen, things to look for etc.  Great book!

Modest Maternity Clothes  I know it is often extremely hard to find modest clothing, but here is a site that sells some pretty nice modest maternity clothes!

Misc Christian living:

Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow:

This is an excellent book on contentment and giving God all of your anxieities.  Linda’s book has really challenged me in my walk with God and has made me really re-think a lot my life where Godly contentment is concerned. She gave me food for thought and just really spoke a lot about the struggles that we face on a day to day basis with being contented.

Magazines: Although these are all magazines, I think just about all of them have a website where you can find a lot of research and articles on, as well.

An Encouraging Word  Is one of my favorite magazines. It is extremely encouraging.

Home School Digest  Is another of my favorite magazines and has a lot of information and articles, not only on homeschooling, but on every aspect of your life.

Above Rubies  This has to be my all time favorite magazine, and it is free!  I couldn’t recommend enough for all woman, of all ages! It doesn’t matter if you are still single, a young mom, or an older mom…this magazine should be in your home!

  • Thought for today

You will probably say that you are willing to die for the cause of Yahshua. But, the question comes down to, are you willing to LIVE for Him?
